Remembering the impact

Today marks the 24th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. On September ninth, 2001, hijackers from an organization called al-Qaeda crashed three planes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, otherwise known as the Twin Towers. This was a very tragic event where almost 3,000 people died. To this day, on 9/11, people all across America mourn the lives of those who died 24 years ago.

I was not alive when the attack on 9/11 took place, but I have learned a lot through stories and photos. Pictures taken from that day are able to capture how tragic this event was so that people will be able to learn and feel a small amount of the heartache from that day.

In the photo above you can see a bird’s-eye view of the destruction that took place. This photo shows the twin towers collapsing, killing all people left inside the building. After the plane crashed into the Twin Towers, the people who were not already dead didn’t have long to get out, and many did not make it out in time. Even the people around the towers would have been killed due to the towers collapsing on them or smoke and debris filling their lungs until they couldn’t breathe anymore.

In this photo you can see how devastating 9/11 was. These people are covered in debris, meaning that they were likely in the building at the time of the crash. The man and the woman both are carrying some of their belongings with them in hopes of saving themselves and some of their valuables. The man and woman both have a look on their faces that tells the viewer how tragic this event really was. These people look like they have seen a ghost, but really, they have seen much worse. They have seen the people they sit next to every day and people they don’t know die. These people will have those images engraved into their brains forever and will likely be traumatized by the events that happened. Some people even may have serious lung conditions from all the smoke and debris.

In this photo, first responders and even other people from the community are helping to carry out a man from the destruction. Though 9/11 was a very tragic day, it highlighted how the people in communities can come together to help each other. These first responders do not likely know these people, but they are risking their own lives to save them.

As a result of these first responders risking their lives to save others, almost 350 first responders died. The first responders did not know these people, but they were willing to die for them. This showcases their devotion to their job and how they will come together for their community.

Overall, 9/11 was a tragic event that showed how a community can come together in times of crisis. Photos taken from that day help us to picture what it was like for those who experienced 9/11.

File formats

JPEG

JPEG or Joint Photographic Experts Group is typically the default option on a camera. JPEGs are compressed when the photo is taken so the image will not have as much detail and will also store at a lower-quality image. However, a JPEG is a smaller file size so you can store more JPEGs and they are easier to transfer to another device unlike other file forms.

HEIF

HEIF stands for High Efficiency Image Format and is the most recent file type to be developed. HEIF images are smaller but cannot easily be displayed on internet browsers.

TIFF

TIFF or Tagged Image File Format is very commonly used. TIFF files are not compressed so they are very high quality. But with a TIFF file you can make tonal adjustments and color grades. Though a downside of TIFF is that not all cameras are able to shoot in TIFF and TIFF files cannot be displayed on all browsers.

RAW

Most cameras such as mirrorless models, DSLRs, and even smartphones can shoot in RAW. RAW files can make adjustments to white balance, exposure, contrast, saturation, and sharpness. To view a RAW file, you have to use software like Lightroom, Capture One, or ON1.

DNG

The DNG was made to attempt to provide a standard RAW file that can be used by all cameras. If you convert a RAW file to DNG, you can access these files years later. Editing software can also convert RAW files in large batches so that you don’t have to convert each one manually.

PNG

PNGs are an improvement on the GIF file. PNGs are small, high quality, and displayable on most browsers. PNGs allow for partial and total transparency which is helpful for overlays and logos.

GIF

GIFs are perfect for internet use just like PNGs. GIFs are small but the image quality is high, and they are able to support transparency. However, GIF files only contain a maximum of 256 colors, so GIF is not the best choice for all photos.

BMP

BMPs were originally used by Microsoft and Windows but are now recognized but Mac programs as well. BMPs take up more color data so BMPs make a high-quality file that is ideal for printing.

PSD

PSDs are used to save data and are able to store edits using individual layers. If you save a PSD, you can always reopen it later and access the editing layers. But once a layered PSD is flattened it cannot be undone.

All About Me!

me and my sister

Hi everyone! I’m Amelia but everyone calls me Milly. I love dancing, baking, reading, and shopping with my sister.

Ever since I was little, I have had phases of things that I love so these are a few things I like as of this week. Even though most of my favorites change weekly, my favorite color has and probably always will be pink. I loved pink so much at one point that I decided to paint my entire room pink. Since then, I painted my room back to white, I still love the color maybe not just as much. One thing that does change is my favorite food. Right now, I have been obsessed with eating yogurt parfaits with a ton of fruit and granola. My family says I hyperfixate on things and I refuse to let my mom go to the store without me for two reasons. One I want to pick out my food and two I will get a coffee.

Both of my parents are teachers so naturally when I was little, I wanted to be a teacher too but as I’ve gotten older, I have realized that I want to be a therapist. I think the brain and how it functions is insane, and I want to learn more about it while also being able to help people. I’ve always wanted to help people in some way but I get too grossed out by any blood so I definitely can’t be a doctor.

Anyone who knows me knows I will listen to music all the time but when it comes to singing, even around my best friends and family, there is no possible way that would ever happen.

All my life I have always gotten in trouble for looking over my parents or my sister’s shoulders to read their text messages because I am so nosy. So, if I got the change to have a superpower, I would want to be invisible so that I could look at people’s text messages or listen in on conversations without getting in trouble. Speaking of superpowers if I was able to transport myself anywhere in the world it would probably be to Paris. When me and one of my friends were little in ballet class, we both said that we wanted to go to Paris and dance in front of the Eiffel Tower. Now I realize that that is a little impractical, but I would still love to go. Along with going places if I was able to time travel, I would want to go to the 1920’s because I want to be a flapper girl and be able to dance around in a cool costume.

Even though I’m not going to my ideal destination, my ideal nights are watching Schitt’s Creek with my mom and cuddling with my puppy on the couch.

My puppy, Bumble, is my world and I love him so much but, if I was going to have a wild animal as a pet I would want a penguin. I think penguins are one just adorable and two I think the way they walk is so cute and funny.

That’s it for now, bye!
